Kilt pin placement

Probably whatever works for you is good. I'll echo the others here and say don't pin through both aprons! As to placement, my Gram always says 3 x 3: three inches up from the selvedge and three inches in from the apron fringe.

From the Regimental Drum Majors website.

Worn approximately 4" up and 3" from right hand side of kilt front apron, in keeping with the set of the tartan.

That's 101.6mm up and 76.2mm in for those of you from strange lands.

This is all good advice. I like to place them on the double thick fabric (if it exists) at the edge of the outer apron. Right, never never pin the outer and inner apron together.

I was recently told off for having my kilt pin in the wrong place at the Maclean Associtaion Clan gathering. The gentleman had been given a pattern to follow for kilt pin placement when he was in the army (many, many moons ago) I suppose this was so that the entire brigade looked identical. He promised to send it to me so if he does I will post it up!

I know it is not common practice, but I don’t use my kilt pin all the time. When I wear mine to work, I don’t ever put it on. That is probably because I don’t have the greatest looking one in the first place. However, I have never had my apron blow open before. I have just found that I prefer the kilt without the pin (atleast until I get a nice one)

I've got a nice little gold caiman, but I just can't bring myself to stick a pin through my new kilt.... Hands shake, forehead gets sweaty.... I'd never be a doctor lol.
