OK gentlemen, here's how this is going to go, from here on out.
Any more of the nonsense like we've been seeing from seanboy and this one goes to the bin. There are a couple of members that are likely going to get late Christmas presents in the form of forum infractions, because of their behavior, as well. And I'll doubtless take heat for saying this here (save your PM's fellows, as I really can't be bothered with them), but seanboy you're about this >< close to finding yourself on the outside looking in. Any more of the ad hominem argument and you're going to be away. Your rude and offensive behavior is not welcome here, so tune up your act.
This thread has been a source of concern for the moderating staff since it was opened and some of you have pushed well beyond the limits of acceptable forum behavior. If you want to post in this thread, be very sure you are not going to regret it at a later date.
While I've got everyone's attention, some of the jokes, comments, pictures and general language around here are getting out of hand. We used to be quite proud of the ladies that were very active participants on this forum and I would like to point out nearly all of them have left. If you fellows feel more manly with the locker room language, then by golly you just go right ahead and use it. But hear this well - this is not a locker room and we're finished tolerating it here.
Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm a cold-hearted, evil, wicked, mean, S.O.B. for posting this here, instead of sending Private Messages. Get used to it or get over it. Your choice.

This seems to go the way of that other discussion on Scots wearing the kilt. My view is that you are a Scot if you have been brought up here and share the hopes and aspirations of your fellow Scots. You are likely to have a Scots accent but I don't think that is completely necessary and you will probably have been exposed to (and understand) Scots words as you grew up. You will be proud of your country and its achievements and a shiver will run down your spine when you hear a patriotic song like "Scots wha hae". You won't necessarily have to like haggis, neeps and champit tatties nor will it be obligatory to welcome the skirl of the pipes 2" from your left ear, although at the right distance they are very welcome. I suppose, really though, that, as well as the above, you would have to actually live here in Scotland to truly be a Scot rather than of Scottish extraction or desire because, no matter how much you might identify with Scotland and its culture, unless you live it then you cannot really be it. Scotland on TV has a few interesting pieces about emigrant Scots in Nova Scotia and how they are even more Scottish than the Scots. I suppose this may well be true but none of them actually want to leave Canada and return to their ancestors' homeland so how, in truth, can they be anything but Canadians albeit with a taste for Scottish culture.

There is confusion between nationality and hreitage as Rathbone says, I can become an
American or Canadian by applying for citizenship jumping through the right hoops and swearing an oath, Im now an American ! (or Canadian) national but Im not a Native American as thats a heritage issue, Im currently a British Citizen but my Heritage is Scots Irish, not because of where I was born but becasue of my Parents. Sir Anthony Hopkins is now an American despite being born and raised in Wales, as he took American citizenship, Hes an American citizen but his heritage is Welsh, so when we say what makes a "Scot" are we talking about Citizenship (which doesnt exist) or Heritage ? remember my friend in the Chip shop,
Hes a British Citizen Born in Scotland to Chinese Parents if you ask him to choose, he will say hes Chinese, and hes never set foot on Chinese soil . however because he is "chinese" in appearence no one would ever quibble. Perhaps if Scots had Tartan coloured Skin and Irish Green or, god forbid Orange skin no one would think twice about this subject.

the argument presented here is what makes a scot, heritage does not make a scot being raised in scotland makes you a scot.
Me and my ancestors where all born and brought up in scotland I have no records of foreigner in my family line, and my family line goes back centuries and centuries.
my father had a dna test, I dont know the full details but the outcome was germanic, scandanavian, iberian, etc etc.
heritage does not make you scottish and when people say I have scottish ethnicity what they really mean is that they have northern european ethnicity.
if dna makes you scottish then no one would be scottish nor would any one be germanic, scandanavian and so on.

highlander, by heritage I mean my fathers culture and the role my living ancestors played in irish history and politics. heritage is not dna. This heritage does not make me irish. when I meant non foriegner I meant outside the uk. there is very little differance between irish and scots genetically.

I think you missed his point, but I'm not going to bother explaining it, it's something you need to find yourself.
