    Sgian dubh project

This is a rustic little knife I've done lately. The blade is cut from an old cross-cut saw. The antler was part of a set salvaged from an antique store. Then the poured bolster. I left the blade a bit rough to pay a bit of homage to the hard use as a saw. The bulk of the work was done with only files, sandpaper, and a knife. There is one blemish on the bolster I need to fix but I may just leave it. All that remains is to get some leather and sew up a sheath.

    The raw materials.

The blade and handle cut out.

    The finished product.

The back of the knife in hand.

Looks really good, Sp8. That piece of antler has a lot of character, and you really let it shine through.

Very nice. How flexible is the blade, coming from a saw?

Those old cross-cut saws are fairly stiff. So far, I've kept blade lengths at 3-4 inches or thereabout so there's not alot of give. We used to have a kitchen knife my Granddaddy made out of an old hand saw that was real bendy.

    DANG YOU, Sp8!

I was looking at your nifty little sgian last night and couldn't quite remember what the blade reminded me of, something Persian, so I ended up spinning off into about a two hour search looking around at various designs like the pesh kabz. Yup, if it had a t-back, it'd be (a little) like the kabz. So now I'm tired and will have to drink extra coffee today.

    I like that knife.
