Smaller amd more numerous pleats do seem to add something to the design - and I think make it look less casual somehow. I usually use at least 22 pleats and there is one in the making with 50 - the pattern dictated it as 25 is not an even number....
Grey is a good for coordinating with pink and I am sure I have seen side snap buckles in various shades of grey. Another option would be to use two metal D rings and thread a strap though them. They act almost like a quick release buckle.
Pink used to be a masculine colour - used for hunting jackets and riding coats, 'Little Red Ridinghood' and 'The Blue Boy' were at the time wearing 'the wrong colours' for their sex - which is why it was mentioned in the titles.
However, that was then and this is now. It might be as well to consider where the pink kilt should be worn. Is the world ready for it yet?
I wonder what a light pink kilt (weathered pink death?) with dove grey jacket would look like - or the (modern?) pink death with a mid grey, it being quite a strong colour.
