A River Runs Through It.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_River..._It_%28film%29
Tom Skerritt plays Reverend Mclean, a Scots-American Presbyrterian Minister.
Oh, it stars Brad Pitt as Paul Mclean. Late in the film, the good Reverend mentions that Paul starts to spell his last name McLean and the good Reverend says something to the likes of "people will think we're low-land Scots."
During a scene at a family picnic the Pipes are heard in the background and a few seconds later a Kilted piper is shown playing at the picnic.
Great movie as a whole. Had to share it.

It is a good movie, bought the dvd, mainly because their house in the film is my sister-in-laws house in Montana. Outside picture only, inside filming was not her house. Good flick, beautiful out there.

Just interested, is her house in Livingston?
My wife lived there for a long time just after it was filmed and I know quite a few of the housed used belonged to friends of hers.
It is a great film and an interesting story, but the book is even better!

Great film! The story takes place just a stone's throw from here and the book's author was a good friend of one of our faculty members. By the way - in the world of fly fishing its referred to as The Film.

The movie changed my life. My father grew up in Livingston, my mother in Lewiston and Missoula. My dad played poker on Front Street (??) in Missoula. They both went to U of Montana in the 30s and 40s - before during and after War II.
My maternal grandparents homesteaded in Roy, lived in Butte, settled in Missoula. My paternal grandparents were from Norris. Lineage goes back to a rabble of Gordons on the Bozeman Trail in 1866 blithly rumbling through Injun country during some talks at Fort Laramie. Fort Reno was still there.
I NEVER EVER understood my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles until I watched A River Runs Through It. When I finally saw the movie I realized that just like most anywhere else there is a Southwestern Montana culture and they were all seeped in it for generations.
While most of my kin are non-religious, my maternal grandmother was a devout Presbyterian.
Later, watched Legends of the Fall and that movie further helped me understand that Montana culture.
I lived in Missoula until I was about 4 or 5. I have mixed emotions that the family moved to Oregon and I didn't grow up there. Still have kin in Bozeman and enjoy SUMMER visits.
