Well said Graywolf, I sure hope that I run into someone with your good attitude when I get caught with my first mistake in public. I'm sure you've all been there before me, and a guiding hand is much appriciated.
As for the evening sporran, is the friend who is loaning you the jacket also willing to loan you their evening sporran for the night? It would seem wise to me to invest in the one that you will get the most use out of, and borrow (or buy cheap) the other, knowing that you can always upgrade to a better model at a later date.
