The kilt and the sweater are both very nice. I bought my wife a nice Aran sweater at a Celtic festival last summer. I'm still waiting for her to return the favor...

Looks good!
I, too, am interested in how they did the pleats...

I am wondering how that 5 yarder is pleated, I've ordered stuff from that company, but never a kilt.
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

I have been watching that sale for sometime, and have been on the fnece about it. Luckily my recent credit card statement decided for me
Looks great. Did they add the reverse pleat on the right side? I had ordered a 5 yard from them and it did not have the reverse pleat.
I have 2 8 yard kilts from them and the pleats are great. I can't speak of the Isle of Skye, but here are the pleats from a 5 yard Weathered MacKenzie I ordered from them (later exchanged for an 8 yard kilt)

Colin,
Yes, there is a reverse pleat on the right side, but it is hidden under the apron. It is very shallow, maybe only 1 inch. On the left side (as you are wearing the kilt) there is a larger reverse pleat, perhaps 4 inches.
I took a picture of the pleats from the back, but didn't post it since the material was wrinkled. They did not baste the pleats to hold them in place.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality of the kilt and the fit. No, it isn't an 8 yard tank, but it is very acceptable for a casual or semi-formal kilt.
Photobucket is down for maintenance right now. I'll post the photo from the back a bit later.
Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
Seems like we could make the IOS almost an alternative XMarksthescot tartan with so many folks buying it.

I am also waiting in the wings to see the picture of the pleats because a machine stitched for under $250 is outstanding...Heck I'm even tempted for the 8 yard hand stitched for $373! Too bad I don't exactly have the scratch, but I could always part with that acoustic guitar... Just know this is all YOUR fault! haha
In all seriousness, the kilt looks great.
Regards,
Tom

Bill,
Here is the back side of the kilt. At this time I had not ironed it, and they didn't baste the pleats before shipping, so they look sloppy.
It looks better now.

I'm thinking of my next kilt. Perhaps a Holyrood?

Tom,
Thank you very much for posting the pleat picture.
The pleats of the wool 5-yard (Irish American) kilt I bought from Scottishkilts.net weren't basted during shipping either. The wrinkles my kilt acquired during shipping fell out after hanging in the closet for a couple of days. Low maintenance is a major advantage of a kilt made of heavyweight wool.
Holyrood is a nice tartan, but Highland Granite is high on my list.

Tom You beat me to it, I was going to let everyone know about the deals that Scottishkilts.net has on their 8yd machine made kilt. I ordered a Dress Gordon last night and requested and got a confirmation that it would be pleated to the stripe. This is the 5th kilt I have ordered from them. The last being a 8yd machine made in the Grey old Langsyne. It is a beautiful kilt, a bit heavy for Florida except in out traditionally cold winters. But I will brave it out. For $240.70 it is a great value. I want the skye too, but have to resist....oh so difficult!

Tim,
The Grey Old Lang Syne was my second kilt and I still really like it.
You are right about the prices and the quality is good. I just ordered a Holyrood tartan from them.
One problem I've noticed on my Isle of Skye is the left apron pleat is curling. As has been pointed out by others, it seems to be because they pleat straight down instead of tapering the apron. I'm going to try fixing it according to some of the directions on other threads. I'll let folks know if it works out.
