Mrs. Brown
After reading through the "Who Was Prince Charlie?" thread, I just had to see the film Mrs. Brown. Wow, it totally exceeded my expectations! Judi Dench and Billy Connelly were both amazing, and the film was beautiful. The costuming, sets, music...just everything was amazing. So, if you haven't seen the film Mrs. Brown, do yourself a favor. Oh, and be sure to have some whiskey available, because it really completed the experience.

Haven't been able to find it. The local Blockbuster only stocks the new releases and popular older titles. Will check ebay.

It has been my contention for years that Dame Judi really won her Oscar for this performance, not the 8 seconds she was on screen for "Shakespeare in Love."

Thanks. I wonder if they'd charge duty on dvd rentals . I did a search here, in Canada apparently we have a similar thing called Zip.ca. I'll see ebay as I've often considered that for my growing collection.

It's easily available in the shops here but being Region 2 and PAL might not be easily playable over there.

It is a fantastic film. Wonderfully done.
Here's a wee anecdote of Billy Connoly's about the film.
He was nervous about meeting someone as illustrious as Dame Judi Dench and had his nipples pierced. (I think he had to take them out for the film.)
So when they first sat down together and said hello, all he could think to do was show her.
He promptly pulled his shirt up and she just smiled, raised her eyebrow and politely congratulated him.
If you liked it, you may also like 'The Queen' just because it has similarly wonderful acting.
P.S.
I know you're Irish as well as Scots, but I personally prefer Whisky when I am watching it. Sets the scene more :P

It's a great movie. When Brown and Prime Minister Disraeli have a meeting of the minds on the hill top at Balmoral, I could feel the wind and chill in my bones.

I got to see it at the Odeon in Leicester Square while in London. It was pretty neat as an American to see it with a British crowd. Excellent film.
