My wife and I went skiing today at Hardwood Hills, north of Toronto. If I look tired in the last one it's probably from saying "no, I'm not cold" so many times!

OK, I thought I was a pretty good skier but judging by this video (and hearing my wife's restrained laughter) ... maybe not.

Living in Norway The home of X-country skiing I'll say this. You are adventurous. Were you out long ?
When we go out it's for most of the day . We ski somewhere and make a fire grill some food and ski home again. I don't think the kilt would be ideal for that type of use .

However Hats off to you sir

). My wool kilt worked out really well. It was a chilly day but my legs stayed warm. From time to time the wind whipped up and my upper body got cold but not my legs. No bonfires at this particular venue but I agree that a kilt may not be the ideal attire around the fire anyway.
Was Telemark the birthplace of X-country skiing?

Great pics Rob. i used to go skiing up at Hilton Falls all the time but that was 25 years ago. This is the first winter, I think, that would be worth invest in new equipment and getting back out there. I'm curous, did you have a prblem of snow being kick up under the back of your kilt the way our snow-shoers do? No need for nylon gaiters?

What I think a lot of you are forgetting is that a lot of the heat that you need when cross country skiing is generatied internally.

Small world! I was skiing Hilton Falls 25 years ago too and I do remember the snow being significantly heavier back then.

We don't get out skiing much any more (3 kids!) so my technique has suffered somewhat. The only benefit is that I'm slower and don't kick up any snow at all so no, that wasn't an issue and gaiters weren't required. I should mention that I ski traditional style, not skating.
Hardwood Hills is a nice place to go. They've had lots of snow over the years and the trails are always freshly set. Yesterday was a great day to be outside though I think your chicken sporran may have frozen!
