			Great kilt with cheater pleats?

I was just wondering what do the rest of y'all think of ordering a great kilt with cheater pleats?
It's not traditional, but it's quicker to put on.

					Who would argue with that?
When you think about it, the great kilt was not pleated only because it was supposed to serve a couple of purposes other than being used as a garment...my understanding is that it primarily doubled as a sleeping bag. If you're not going to use it for anything other than a garment, go for it.

My opinion? Pleating a great kilt is a great pain. I'm in a living history group called the Renaissance Scots, so I take the time to pleat my phillabeg by hand, but if I wasn't in such a group, then I would most deffinately get the cheaters.

I put a drawstring into the great kilt I just recently got, and even though I've only warn it a couple of times, it cuts my dress-time in half, probably more! I'd say go for the cheater pleats, especially if someone else is doing it! (Sewing in pleats on a 60" wide piece of fabric seemed quite daunting to me)

Quite a few "reenactors" and folks that wear belted plaids have and do sew a "straight line" along the length of the waist (under where the belt will go) to make it quick to don. They don't stitch a fell or press anything, just a line of stitches to hold the waist together.

I sewed pleats into my great kilt over ten years ago. Makes it MUCH easier to put on.

I've put on one of those cheater pleat plaids before, kind of reminds me a little of putting on a robe. They're nice. The drawstring option would be nice too.
 * I don't mean to say that the belted plaid is a robe, just that the ease of putting it on and the feel of the garment slightly reminded me of putting on a house robe.

I don't have a belted plaid, but I do have one of the Celtic Croft's "Ancient" kilts. I got the cheater pleats, and I have to say, it was an excellent decision!

Well, I was thinking of getting a great kilt from CC, which is kinda (but not really) the same thing.

I'm thinking of getting the cheater pleats, because I don't feel like rolling up in it everytime I have to wear it.

My personal choice would be the draw string which I truly believe was likely done when the great kilt was worn, but I think the cheater pleats are fine if you only plan to wear it as a garment.
By the way why do I think the great kilt had a drawstring? Sorry it's not some great insight into history, it's just this. I can not believe that the people who "...Invented the Modern World"* would settle for every man laying his kit on the ground and pleating it by hand everytime he want to put it on.
