TatterDel,
Some in our scout troop talked about wearing kilts to ren faires and other special events. I have seen them worn by scouters at summer camp.
Rather than deciding on a set uniform, it might be fun to let each of your Venture Scouts choose his or her own kilt/hiking skirt. This would expose the crew to different kilts and perhaps lead to learning about all the differnt styles and tartans available. Your planning meetings for this must be fun. Although the kilt may not be your official uniform at scouting events, you would all be comfortable and stylish on all your outings and at all your meetings. That being said, it probably would be hard to get back into the green/gray scout uniform once you wore the kilt.
Thank you. The Crew has decided that they will pursue this idea later and that it will be an optional item. I'm glad to see that they were at least interested in the idea and I commend them for talking it out and coming to a consensus on it. I'm so excited to be working with such an amazing group of young people!!!
Thank you all for the warm welcome and the great advice!
I have learned so much in such a short time. It has reconnected me with my heritage and my great love for all things Scottish.
Yours truly,
