The Cloaked in Midnight Joan and I went to the San Francisco Symphony on Saturday Night (Program, Sibelius's 7th Symphony, two short pieces by SFS conductor, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Shostakovich 9th Symphony...WOW)
Joan went in the same outfit she wore to Burns night, black from head to toe. I wore my NacNicol Modern (it's very *Red*) kilt, the first traditional kilt I ever made. That was teamed up with white shirt and black bow tie, formal sporran, Spencer Jacket and waistcoat, white piper hose and black dress shoes.

I thought hard about wearing Strings hose, I probably spent ten minutes dithering over it, and in the end opted for the stark white on black look.

1.) We proceeded up the steps to the first balcony and Joan headed for the ladies room while I, along with a dozen other men, cooled our heels outside. When she came out, she reported that the woman she'd entered with had turned to her and said "My, but that's an elegantly attired gentleman you're with tonight".

My response to that was two-fold. A) Howz she know ahhm uh gennelman? B.) I'm ALWAYS with Joan, not just that night.

2.) After intermission and a nice chat about Scottish geneology that we had with a couple that we've now met at the Symphony three times ( we all sprint for the refreshments counter for coffee and arrive about the same time!) we were walking back to the entrance to the seating area when this *ahem*..VERY attractive women in a stunning silk shawl came up to me and raved over my kilt. This wound up with her clutching my hands, looking soulfully into my eyes and telling me about when she and her husband over there, who was from Scotland, had gotten married all the men had worn kilts and how I looked so wonderful and I'd made her so happy. Gee, I hope I made her husband happy too...Ummmmm.

Sounds like a nice night indeed. We've been so busy over here with all the day to day stuff we haven't had a 'fancy' evening in quite a while. Going to have to remedy that.
