Thanks for the replies, everyone!
Uncle Al, I prefer the "That's for me and my wife to know" reply best, I think Neither of us are wanting to give anyone any ideas (and I certainly don't want to know if I'm the sort who'll end up throwing a punch if I see someone lifting his kilt). But yes, I've told him to definitely stay on his toes as far as witty replies go and to be prepared for questions, and I'm sure he'll have plenty to say to anyone who attempts to take things too far.
(we were amused at the guy who asked the Question -- he obviously wasn't prepared to actually get an answer and I think realized immediately that he really shouldn't have asked)

Great pics, Cynthia!
I actually saw Ronusan and didn't know it! I pointed out his kilt to my friend, but had no idea he was an XMarker! We should wear bells or something to let others know we are in the vicinity...
Yeah, I had to really watch my kilt on Sunday, with the gusty winds and it being a mini-kilt. Afraid my neighbors got a full moon as I was getting into my car that morning

Were you wearing a red mini-kilt with a black windbreaker and black boots, and standing in the back when Altan played? Just the mention of the mini kilt made me think of the only one I remembered seeing.

Nope - wasn't me.
Saturday I had on my new County Meath mini (mostly green) and Sunday in my Holyrood (brown and blue). Both days I had brown boots.
And I say "mini" even though both kilts are over 18' long.
If memory serves, you were coming in the Scottish clan area, I was going out.

Thanks, Rowdy! I wish I'd gotten a photo with you, not to mention more photos of some of the festival areas. I don't know why I was so out of it with the camera -- it's like I forgot I had it most of the time. By the way, I meant to tell you how lovely your skirt was! It was very nice
I was fortunate enough to have seen some of Ron's photos and recognized his kilt (it really is a nice kilt, love the colors). I didn't know what you looked like, but kept an eye on the SCD area because I wanted to meet you, too I wish there were an easy way to spot XMTS members in a crowd like that because it would have been nice to meet a few other folks. I also wasn't sure what everyone's plans were and didn't want to take up too much of their time since there were workshops and bands playing, and I'm sure everyone had plenty to do while they were there. Maybe next time we can come up with a "meeting place" (the SCD area/Scottish Clan area was great... very easily found and I hung around that area a lot). Aside from having the XMTS tartan (I don't, but maybe someday -- I really like it), I am not sure if there are other ways to help make ourselves more visible to each other. Normally I don't wear my hair down, but since I didn't have any tartan or anything else that could stand out from the crowd I couldn't think of anything else.
Anyway, it was wonderful to meet you both. It really was a fantastic time, even if I was a bit overwhelmed with how big the place was. So much to see! After I got home, I realized there were a few things I wanted to go back and look at closer and forgot. D'oh!
I'm definitely looking forward to the Scottish Festival!

Well, there was some talk about having a banner, or some such sign, made to hang up whenever there was a gathering...to help identify a common meeting spot and to provoke more interest for the un-kilted. ("XMarks? What's that?")
MKMound might remember...he talked with some/one of the moderators on here to see if that was ok....
I don't recall what we planned to do about it, though...must have been on a Kilt Night when the beer was plentiful... int:
