Crusty's experience must be extremely rare but then he states that he spoke to one of the owners not to a member of staff.

I wish that could have been recorded by the media. There was a guy called Gerald Ratner who made similar comments about the jewellery he was selling in his shops which was picked up by the media. Sales plummeted and he ended up having to close the whole chain.

I followed that story quite closely, so let's be clear the woman you mention did not intend to insult anyone, as your remark infers. It just so happened she had the misfortune to be in a culture/society that has little tolerance.

I think that this shows that the Gold's feel that they have the economic clout to start taking on the regular kiltmakers. Isn't it an old economic stategy to weaken an opponent by underpricing him/her, till you can take over their business?

I find it interesting how they say that no one should pay more than 200 gbp for a kilt, when they have an awful lot of kilts, particularly the standard wool 8 yarders, that START at just under 200gbp and go up significanlty from there, particularly if you want anything but a budget end tartan from one of the marginal tartan weavers.

Their stock budget low end kilts are all in limited fixed sizes and one length (24inches) ----at least when you go to buy a pair of jeans you get a lot more options about what length you can buy, as well as a choice of cut.

Except for their 5 yarders, all their custom sized wool kilts start at 200 pounds and go up quickly from there for virtually any tartan you choose.
