			a better sporran holder

In my never ending search to build a better sporran holder I picked up two 18 inch argon welded chrome plated dog leashes at the post exchange in an attempt to use them on my rabbit fur dress sporran. I don’t think this will be too hard of a DIY project and I will post pictures of my project.
Has anyone used this before, they are very nice chains, much nicer than what I have received with my dress sporran.

I was wondering about this. When we ordered the affordable sporran from Stillwater, the belt that came with it was way too small for my husband to wear. Although we know we should stick with leather straps most of the time, it seems a shame to not be able to use it at all. I wanted to go looking for some chain to use to lengthen the belt, but haven't found anything similar yet. I was thinking about dog leashes, but haven't had a chance to look. I wasn't sure how easy it would be to cut down to size. I'm looking forward to photos and tips.

			Cutting the chain

You could use a pair of vice grips and a Dremel Tool to cut the chain, at least that's what I may do if I need to cut them. The chain is very nice, will not from what I can tell hurt the kilt.

Is this anything like the chain used on a dog "chocker" collar?I ask because that's what I used to replace the wimpy chain that came with my biker wallet & it's held up great after nearly 20 yrs. of hard use (I actually replaced the wallet & reutilized the chain).

What a good idea! I might try making one myself this weekend.
An important part in making a sporran strap or chain are the clasps that connect to the sporran. I have a cheap sporran chain that actually caught and damaged a new kilt of mine!

That should work nicely, I receive a solid chain with one of my sporrans "no belt"I think it was U.S.A. Kilt. I was surprise to not have a belt on it, but now it is my
favorite"for dress". It slides easy out the way when setting or driving. That's a easy to make a
 sporran belt just a thought!
