My goodness, but this list is filled with people with the most amazing information. Thanks MoR, I did not know that. I too grew up on Dragnet. I think it is where I get my love of the 'roman policier' from...that and reading Agatha Christie at 12.

Jack Webb
I knew that about Jack Webb, and if LA was not so polluted, crowded, etc., I would go back and do what I started some twenty plus years ago.
I took the LAPD’s written exam, passed, and did well on the oral boards, scored an 85, but I did not speak a second language, and had no college. In the long run, it’s been a blessing, because I will retire from the Army September 2009 and head to Boise Idaho to apply for the Ada County Sheriff’s department.

Yeah, LA is no longer the town that Raymond Chandler and Dashiel Hammet eulogized in the 30s'... more's the pity. Don't blame you for heading north...

Laso
Were you with the LASO?
That Saturday morning I was heading to the LASO academy to test, got lost and ended up going to Dodger stadium and onto the LAPD academy where I knew they tested every Saturday, I sometimes wonder where I would be now had I not gotten lost.

I like it!
Of course you realize, Jack Webb was one of the Few, The Proud.
During family day, before graduation from boot camp, they showed an informational piece for visitors that featured Jack Webb talking about the Corps.

But it explains why his film THE DI is so good.
