In the Shirley Temple movie, Wee Willie Winkie, it shows a Scottish regiment in India boiling their kilts on a wash day, presumably for lice and other hygienic reasons. Of course, the kilts would have to be re-pressed after using that cleaning method.

Boiled wool soup, maybe? Now /there's/ some gourmet Scottish cuisine!

There is no harm in going Regimental; the harm is in being irresponsible. Only a tiny fraction of all people believe that the rest of the world exists mostly to clean up their messes, but this tiny fraction causes trouble far beyond its numbers; it has to keep constantly on the move because its only hope of survival is to be a moving target.

There is rarely any great risk in renting a kilt; irresponsible rental firms don't stay in business long.
