I tend to match the hose I wear to the color of the shirt and leathers that I am wearing. As such tan and brown sox accenting brown leathers and a neutral shirt can look very good with the Blackwatch. The Blackwatch tartan is already so dark, that I like to lighten it up a bit.

I think it all depends on the occasion, time of day etc...
Bottle Green, Black, or Cream Hose should all look fine; I think it all depends on the occasion, time of day etc...
I am sure you could even get away with Lovat Green or Oatmeal colored hose.
