Congratulations on completing your first (of many) sewing projects. I think it is great that it worked out to be a gift to the girlfriend.
She looks good in it.

Steam Iron term.
A hard surface with a blanket or towel spread flat on it.
Bonnet placed on same upside down.
towel flat on underside (now upper) of rim seam.
Steam applied through towel to acrylifelt.
Result should be a sharp perimeter seam, so that the bonnet top is fairly flat.
Now a pom of your gf's colour applied to the top center and your golden.
