Here in Australia, Tartan Day is celebrated on July 1st (the anniversary of the repeal of the Act of Proscription). However, the State Director of my Department, who hails from Glasgow, sent me an email on Monday which contained a lovely Tartan Day greeting, along with a complete transcription of the Declaration of Arbroath!
We had a chat later in the day, and he asked me if I would be interested in organising a July 1st Tartan Day here in the State Office, whereby we could hold a Scottish-themed morning tea with all tartan wearing attendees making a donation to charity. I also hit upon the idea of selling tartan ribbons to those who don't own an article of tartan clothing. As there are over 1000 people here in the office I think we should be able to raise at least a few hundred dollars.
I have to say I'm pretty honoured to have been approched by the "Big Boss" to organise such an event!
Regards,
Troy
