Hey Robert, would you mind asking the talented Lady Chrystel what kind of thread and needle she uses in that machine for stitching leather? I am curious because I have had better luck with my "all purpose" needles and poly thread than the leather specific needles and nylon thread that my local leather shop recommended. Thanks!

Chrystel uses a leather needle, probably the same recomended by your local leather shop. When sewing, you must encrease the lenth of the stiches, go slowly and do not hesitate to change needle if you feel it has a tendency to cling to the leather.
As for the thread, a polyester thread, not too thick.

Hmm, sounds like how I go about it. I cant get the machine to consistently stitch. Sometimes its great, sometimes the bobbin thread gets all bunchy. Oh well. The only machine stitches in my sporran are for decorative purposes only. I saddle stitch all seams that are put under any stress for super durability. They will probably never see enough weight to pop a machine stitch but oh well. Thanks!

Berserkbishop,
A couple of places for very good cantles are Elegant Scotland and McKenzie-Frain.
It's interesting in my quest about the difference in price between inexpensive and expensive sporrans that I have found that the big difference is the quality of the cantle and the fur used.
It seems a shame to have a good sporran made, yet use an inexpensive cantle.
