Without advocating any particular approach, I can't help but wonder if going Regimental is completely indefensible for that kind of situation, i.e., working indoors in a "office" setting where flashing would seem to be unlikely.

Thanks Steve for the wonderful story. Since, I've been on one of your tours I guess I can appreciate it even more. By the way, what a wonderful museum it is. It was one of the many highlights of the 2007 Kilt Kamp.

Hmm. After all that time of volunteering they still didn't have an answer...and they felt the need to ask as if it were important. Still you handled it very well.

Thanks for sharing the story. That is definitely a really good way to handle it. I'm glad that there are people willing to talk about this to help us socially inept people (mainly me ) out of a potentially sticky situation.

The family is planning a trip up your way this summer, I'm definitely putting the museum on the list of must do activities! Thanks again.

Hi guys, Can we let this die as just a nice story. I have been a Docent at the museum for 11 years, I have worn my kilt for the past 4. I know that it was a very uncomfortable situation for my supervisor to be told she had to ask.
It seems that there were some comment cards from visitors complimenting me on my knowledge and presentation skills. The said "The Docent in the Kilt". It seems that because I am at the museum on Sunday and the paid staff did not know I was in a kilt that there were concerns. Yes, it is PC gone wild. but it is also a concern for the visitors.
I am in the galleries, moving, talking, sitting, and in very close contact with many visitors of all ages. Even one case of my inadvertently flashing would be too much.
This is why I never, and I repeat never go regimental while in front of the public. I would never sully the reputation of the museum, myself or the kilt.
I was simply trying to defuse an embarrassing situation with some humor. I thought my comment about "Why, you too are naked under your clothes." did that well and opened a further discussion about the visitors reactions to the kilt.

Let's just let it go at that, OK.

It was an excellent answer, but still none of her business despite her concern.

    Steve,

Again, that was a great story. I'm going to close the thread for you as people are probably going to keep wanting to get a last word in.

    It reamins a nice story.

    Cheers
