I have two PK in my closet, one was my work kilt in the kitchen before retirement replacing my USA Victory, it has taken a beating and while it has needed a few repairs, all the result of me mistreating the garment, it is a great kilt for everyday wear. The other, is a real beauty, solid black in a material that many of the higher end dress slacks are made out of, with a button up shirt and tie and jacket it is very "corporate" looking.

    Hi guys.
I am new to the site and posted in the DIY section pictures of the kilts I have made so far.
One was inspired by PK which I stumbled upon when trying to find instructions to make a kilt.
There are a few pictures of one I did in black, with a red and black plaid insert. (I say plaid because it is like a shirting material, don't know if it is a certain tartan or not)

    That was in this thread:

Anyway, for those wondering how to; here is what I did.
I cut the inserts out to the depth of the pleats and then measured and stitched them onto the black fabric before pleating.
I covered the entire length of the black fabric. (from hem to waist)
In hindsight, when I make another I will go just to the fell.
Not necessary to have all that other material to work around at the top.
Then it was just a matter of pleating to the inserts.

It was time consuming, and a pain in the butt, however I am pretty happy with the results and think it came out looking pretty good.
I get a lot of positive comments when I wear that kilt.

That was only the second kilt I had made and was still trying to figure out what I was doing too.
I plan on making another with the inserts in the very near future.
I will be sure to post pictures of the results when I get it done.

    Happy Kilting, Gary
