Quite honestly don't know a thing about it.
It was off the rack at a Joann's fabric store.
It is very light weight shirt type material.
I liked the red and black, as that is our colors for the guild I belong to for the local renn faire I am involved with.

I'm a former "bigger" guy myself. Good on ya for the weight loss.

I want to start making my own kilts aswell but have no idea on how sewing instructions work. Howd ya do it?

Cheers
I have done a bit of sewing since I was in high school.
I have modified patterns to make garb for the kids for the renn faire.
So this wasn't too difficult for me to pick up.
I just found some links online, grabbed some cheap material to start with and just jumped in and figured it out as I went along.

Some great work there - are you planning a tartan one at some stage?
I have a mostly German family history, but (if what I have found online is true) my last name is of Welsh background. I can never find a tartan associated with my last name, and thought if I could it would be cool to make one in a tartan like that. Even if I can't find something, there are many beautiful tartans out there that I wouldn't mind wearing. That is the long answer.
The short answer is, yes, I would love to try my hand at pleating and making a tartan kilt sometime soon.
