Casual vs. Semi-Traditional?

I have both a casual and semi traditional from Rocky. I haven't worn the semi traditional for more than 15 minutes. (I live on a farm, and don't want to damage it) The casual I wear all the time, it isn't as easily dressed up as the semi traditional though.

If you already have a dressy kilt go for the casual. The velcro is nice, and seems to be holding up quite well, and like you said a belt will help if you are worried.

I'm drawn to more pleats on the semitrad, but just took a big loss on a beautiful SWK HW Black Shadow Tartan kilt because I find that I can't stand to wear a kilt above my navel in the traditional Victorian manner...the "Jeans Waist" cut from USA Kilts looks like what I should have ordered in the first place. (This is where my Utilikilts sit as well as my Belted Plaid.)

Anyone ever have a many pleated semi traditional USA Kilt built in the lower off the hips fashion that the Casual Kilts are offered in?

I'm looking at either the MacDonald modern or USArmy tartan probably.

I have a Prince of Wales semi trad pleated to the white stripe and i LOVE it. Its really nice. I also have a USA casual in the Scottish National tartan, its a great kilt but.... The Semi Trads are much nicer and worth the extra money, in my opinion anyway. You will be happier with the semi trad. The casuals are nice too, but they just aren't the same.

We can make the Semi Trad to fit at your "jeans waist"... we just have to make a note of that when you order (so we don't add a rise and so we don't sew down the fell as far).

US Army is now out of stock... it was a limited run and we're now completely out of the material. We DO however still carry the MacDonald.

Thanks for all the input. I did decide on it a few weeks ago to go ahead and save some money on it and opted for the casual, mainly because I cannot think of many reasons I really need my 2nd kilt to be a 'dressier' one as I already have one that works for that. However, if I'm pleased with the kilt I have on order (which I'm sure I will be) I may very well be in the market for a semi-trad eventually.
