I have enough of a job explaining that, due to an accident of geography, I was born in Torquay, Devon on the English south coast and yet don't feel at all English! Well, having a full name like Bruce McKenzie Fraser sorta makes you think as a kid growing up!
It wasn't my fault that my Scottish-born (Jura) grandfather, whose family were from Stratherrick, demobbed from the Royal Navy in Plymouth in 1922 and married a local girl!
As for kilt-wearing here in the English borders, I value my life not to wear one as it's the last bastion of both male chauvanism and they burn guys in 'skirts' in these parts!
Cheers
Bruce
