Thanks! I did machine sew once through 1 waistband the layer and then once more through all the layers of the waist band and kilt.
--I sewed one side first (one layer of the waistband strip) right side facing the outside of the kilt. Folded that over snugly to form the waistband and then sewed through all layers. In Barb's book, you handsew the final layer (that one in the inside of the kilt) so that no stitches show up on the outside.
