    A few options.

We sell these oilskin "Storm Capes" made by Empire Canvas Works through the museum. If someone is looking for an Inverness-style cape that is a truly hardy outdoor wear garment, this is it. Rugged, durable, and heavy!

I also really like the look of an Inverness cape made from a heavy tweed.

The gentleman on the left is my friend Al Bullman. He wore his on that chilly November morning. When I saw no fewer than four people try to buy it right off of his back was when I seriously started thinking about how we could offer tweed capes through the museum. And guess what? Empire Canvas Works is currently working on making up a prototype for me from Harris Tweed. I can't wait to see it! Once the details are hammered out, you'll soon see these on our gift shop page, as well.

    Detail shot:

Here's a link to a company that offers nice tweed Inverness capes. They're quite expensive, though...

    From that web site:
    Made to measure
    £489.95 ( approximately $879.00 )

What do you think, Kevin, can we beat that price? :-)

I would also assume that price doesn't include tax on the wool or shipping from the U.K., both of which would add a hefty fee.

Would the inverness be a terribly difficult thing to make? It seems that for a skilled kiltmaker there would be a market for these beauties.
