    Thumbs up

I have to agree, the Sportkilt is great for some applications, (I have a couple) But for about the same money, you can get a USA Casual. Custom fit, nicer material and construction, etc... You'll be happier in the long run.

Hmm, so the consensus seems to be to go with a USA Kilt for the first one, as it will have to serve duty not only as a casual, but also when I try to dress it up. At least until such time as I might be able to secure a better one.

I looked at the site, and the USA Kilt is quite reasonable in price. At least, the Casual Kilt is, there's just no way I can swing the double cost of the Semi-Traditional right now. Maybe next year. Looking at the pictures it had of the Casual, I notice that it seemed to lack Fringe on the Apron, and the buckles and straps to either side of the apron. I was actually kind of looking forward to the straps and buckles, as I think it really helps pull the look off. Is it difficult to add these things yourself, or is it something they might do for a reasonable fee.

Anyway, thanks for the tips and advice, keep it coming...

    Hey Casey,

I am an owner of a USA Kilts Semi Trad in the Clark/Clergy tartan and love it! I had the same decision to make last year, planned on a Casual one from Sportkilt or USA Kilts. First time kilt buyer, learned a lot from this website and noticed USA Kilts was only a 2 hour drive. Went in for Casual, came out with Semi, Rocky was a great help. Now I'm looking for a knock around kilt to use more for recreational activities, I don't want to mess the Semi up. Whatever kilt you wind up purchasing, just enjoy it, they're great to own and wear.

I'll throw another monkey into the wrench. You seam to be set on the Clark Tartan, then look at The Frugal Corner's 16 oz Clark. Their as good as SWK Standard, (maybe a little heavier,) All the fringe and buckles you want. They are not wool, a poly-something. But well worth the money. Check their sizes, they offer limited sizes in 16 oz. Also, they size differently than everyone else, looses rather than tightest fit.

A USAK Casual will look better than a Sports Kilt when dressed up.

Many traditional kilts (like military kilts) don't have fringe. It serves no purpose. The two buckles and straps at the top of a kilt are normally covered by a belt so only the lower buckle and strap is seen.

Argghhhh!!! Another monkey into the wrench indeed!! Does anyone have any experience with the Frugal Corner Kilt? It looks like a good package deal they offer. And 16 oz. material would be nice, I know it's not wool, but would give more of a feel for the movement I would think.

Criminy!! Two days ago I was all set, and all I had to do was order, now I'm all up in the air again, and don't know what to do.....this kilt money is practically burning a hole in my pocket, but I don't want to make a rash decision which I'll regret in six months....

    Help please!!!

I agree with the USAK suggestions. I have three USAK casuals and they all fit, wear, and wash well. I also have a semi-trad, but as it's wool, don't wear it much in the summer. I think most USAK customers agree the customer service at USAK is second to none. I also have two Utilikilts which are great for hiking, and also wear and wash well.

Hi Casey, there is a split opinion on the board about Frugal Corner. Use the search tool to read the various threads on the product and their customer service.

Most of the complaints on Fugal Corner come from their early days, when they were still a home business. Now that they are a real identity, things seam to be fine. There was a good comparison between them and SWK that spoke well of both.

I for one, am a big fan. My 16 oz Buchanan is well worth the money and I would wear it as evening attire as quickly as day dress. Their shipping has been as quick as SWK (The standard everyone compares shiping by.) They have returned my calls when I didn't leave a message, but they saw my number on caller ID.

I have no experience with the other companies or their products you are looking at. I don't doubt everyones enthusiasm towards them is well warrented. When I looked them up and saw the prices I decided to offer you another possibility.
