At least there is a solution. While not universally recommended, a kilt can be shortened. Just CAREFULLY cut it off, using the pattern as a guide line, about 1" longer than you want it. bind the edge, then turn it up, blind stitch it and press (Lots of steam and pressure) it flat. A rather tedious bit of work, but the end results will be OK. Or you might want to send it to one of our many excellent kilt makers for alterations. You will still spend a lot less than a new kilt of that quality would cost, and the job would be done by experts
