Cajunscot and Gilmore, thanks. Yes, I bet that the colonial connection would make kilt-wearing visible in south asia.

You missed the point of my message; while the post-Independence armies of India and Pakistan (not forgetting Nepal's Gurkhas, who serve the British, Indians, Singapore and the Sultan of Brunei) have adopted the pipes and some aspects of Highland regimental kit, the kilt is not one of them.

Yes, I did miss your main point. Let me add mine: I would still say (opine without photo evidence) that the kilt is still visible in India precisely because of the piper bands and the british highland regiments that are stationed there. If not the locals wearing them, the military non-locals would. There are none of those things in the country where I'm from.

As far as I'm concerned, the more men wearing kilts in the world the better. Please wear the kilt and wear it proudly.

I go to social events now (not that long) kilted and I try to influence my guy friends to consider kilt-wearing!

I don't have any pictures I can post, but I have a grandson, whose mother is Korean. . . . and he looks it! He also is learning to play the pipes, need I say more?
