    Scot fiddlers

Every one talks about bag pipes and other wind instruments as of Scotish nature. How about fiddlers? Are there any out there who play Scottish tunes and all , while kilted? I play both fiddle and cello kilted at the jam sessions I attend.

There are lots of Celtic fiddlers from the east coast of Canada, many of whom perform kilted. Ashley Macisaac and Richard Wood for example. On the XX side there's Natalie MacMaster and others.

I did not mean professionals but just "regular types".

Yep, I kilt up to play music

I kilt up for the fiddle, low whistles and guitar. Depending on where and what I am doing, I go modern or traditional - I fiddle Scottish and any thing else Celtic - though of late mostly Scot fiddle. I am not a pro, just a struggling amateur.

Surely you're familiar with Niel Gow, the most famous Scottish fiddler to ever live. His most popular tune, "Niel Gow's Lament For His Second Wife", is probably one of the most beautiful pieces in Celtic music.

My favorite Scottish fiddler is Alasdair Fraser, who also wears the kilt. He's appeared at the Houston Highland Games one year and has also been to the Texas Scotish Festival in Arlington, TX. I have several of his recordings on CD.

    Niel Gow

No kidding, I was just now playing Neil Gow's Lament... one of my favs. So Beloitpiper you must have ESP (extra sensory piping perception)

Jack, in my wildest dreams I play like AF - a giant amongst us fiddlers!

A good friend of mine used to fiddle for a local band (Poisoned Dwarf) and now (for another week or two) plays for Iona (another Virginia celtic band). As it's a she, she doesn't play kilted, but she's definitely supportive of them.
