Its great to read old threads but the thing that pulls them back to the top of the heap is adding a comment. I often wonder why bother? I mean really - what earth shattering new insight can anyone really to add to a thread that ran its course three years ago?

Phil, we can extend that argument to the point where it is safe to say we've touched on nearly every kilt topic there is, in the last 400,000+ posts. So why have the forums open to posting, at all?

And if someone is not adding any 'earth-shattering new insight' to an older thread, what are they possibly bringing to the table in a new thread?

I think you'll see people's thoughts and perceptions can often change over time, so sometimes it can be interesting to see how those positions have changed.

I agree, there's no need to welcome a member that joined two years ago. But we don't want to stop people from posting in threads that are relevant to their current situation or position.
