There is a way that the great kilt is wrapped so that the belt sits that way. It actually involves 2 belts- one underneath, and one over top. I don't use myself- it's not especially comfortable- but this guy http://www.renscots.org/clan.html does. It looks exactly like the kilts that the Alba guys wear. I don't know that it's exactly the same, but it sure looks like it to my eye. (Just my 2 cents worth- take it for that.)

    That's a great kilt.

When I wear one in the Summer, I let it hang down the back like that. During colder times I bring both ends up over my shoulders and pin the ends together in the center. If it is raining, I leave enough to form a hood to fit over my head.

Ahhh! The beauty of the great kilt. I start the festival with it pinned, or in my case tied up with a leather strap sewn to my leine, and as it heats up I let the material down to cool off. If it rains, just pull it up over my head!

And yes, the lads and lass of Albannach produce so much heat I doubt they ever wear their great kilts any other way than down!

    Cheers!

You are right, Nighthawk. At Grandfather, I asked one of them about it. He shared there is the typical ( I assume smaller in their case) belt that holds it up. Then the other that goes on the outside of plaid.
