Thanks for sharing the scene, Jock Scot. The artless simplicity of tasteful attire for such an occasion is heart-warming.

Great report. I'd love to see more simplicity on this side of the big pond.

seems to have been a fine affair. Although I am appaled at the lack of bonnets. I expected at least the odd balmoral or subdued solid colour tam someplace.

Was there no headgear worn, or was it a mix of stuff but nothing sterotypical?
I would love to participate in an event such as you describe. So evocative!

I can assure you that not a bonnet was to be seen----not unusual at all. Now, had it it been raining and in midgie season that would have been another matter! Even then, I expect that you would not see a glengarry or flat tweed cap, you would see a few Balmorals, the girls might have worn a tam, but on the whole most people would have worn a "fore and aft"(imagine a deer stalker without the flaps).

Interesting.....thanks, Jock. I'm hoping (hoping, just hoping) to get over to Scotland for the Masters heavy Athletics World Championships next summer, I'll keep your recommendation in mind.
