Sporran Substitution??
Just a quick question. Is it looked at askance if one were to substitute something else in place of a Sporran when out and about kilted?
What I'm thinking of is that I found an old, black, 2 pocket ammo pouch in some of my old gear. It's got one main pouch, with a little twist tab lock to hold it closed, and on the front of that, just below the main flap, is a smaller pouch, with a snap closure. The smaller pouch, is fairly shallow, but I think that it would be perfect for an ID or credit card and a bit of cash, for easy access, while the larger pocket could carry the rest of the "crap" that ends up in my pockets or on my belt and I invariably would have to dig through it to find what I was looking for.
I also found a 1 inch wide black web strap with a black, plastic, release buckle that I was thinking would be usable as a strap for the above sporran substitute.
I'm just considering this, as I only have one 'real' sporran, the Rob Roy that came with my USAK Casual, and don't want to risk mucking it up and getting ti knocked about for casual wear, and saving it for dressier occasions. Not this weekend, but next weekend, I'm going to go out kilted for the first time, and trying to put this together so I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off at the last minute.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
Casey

Its clothing not costume. Wear what works. I've seen ammo pouches, bdu organizers, and just general waist packs worn. (And of course, no sporran at all.)
Best regards,

I agree, if you like it, wear it.

You could wear a backpack or get a kilt with pockets. I won't soon forgo the sporran in a tank, though.

It sounds like it could work, a sporran after all is just a pouch to hold your stuff, so why not.

Back when I was doing that experiment with gardening in a Buzz Kidder, I wor a black canvas tool pouch a lot. It worked better to wear it to the side in most cases, though.

For very casual situations, I wear a fanny pack instead of a sporran. (My apologies to members in the UK for using the "f" word, but that is what its called here in the US.)

If it fits and functions, wear it.
