Thanks for all your support. Mike is doing a little better, but he is nowhere near out of the woods yet. They have decided against surgery, as they are not confident that he is strong enough to survive. Instead they will attempt to set the bones and let him heal on his own.
Mike's parents have started a blog following his progress:

As a side note, it would appear that the accident may not not have been entirely the driver's fault. According to police, there was a car stopped in the left lane waiting to turn which blocked Mike from the from the driver's view. There may have been very little the driver could have done.
Honestly, I feel sorry for her. That's a terrible thing to have to live with.

Mike died on tuesday at 10:42 am.
I had been hoping to announce that he had been revived from his medically induced coma, but before they could do it, they found a fluid build up in his brain which they had no way to treat. While everyone knew this could happen, the progress he had made raised our hopes, making it that much worse.
I'm holding up fairly well, as I am unusually comfortable with death, but there are a lot of people who are really struggling to deal with this. I'm doing what little I can to help others get through this, but its going to take time.
And yet, there is some strange sense of peace as well. The day before Mike died, his mentor, another friend in our tight knit group, became a father. The timing of the two events just seems to give both a bit of perspective.
