Ex hire kilt jackets especially UK members
Last fall or early winter I came across a couple of UK Kilt Hire companies that were selling off ex-hire kilts, jackets and accessories. The jackets were especially a good buy. I think it was on ebay, but; I'm not real sure. Recently I have searched the Web and ebay without finding any ex-hire kilt jackets advertised. Could any UK members offer any suggestions or direction? If so, I would be most appreciative of email and or phone numbers of any kilt hire companies that offer ex-hire sales that anyone could provide. These were definitely UK companies. During my correspondence with them they indicated a large inventory stock of ex-hire jackets and continuous sell off of ex hire kilt clothing. After much searching of old emails and search sites I am unable to recover any of these sites.
Thanks in advance,
Gene

I'm renting a jacket from Atlanta Kilts for my best man, I won't know about the quality until the end of Sept. Not sure if it's ex-hire selloff, but they do sell PC jackets for $168. At that price I would assume they are either ex-hire or so-so quality, but wouldn't hurt to ask them.
Also if you're looking for quality it pays to check around, last time I looked USAK was running a sale on their jackets (sponsor plug).
BTW where in PA are you????

When I was looking, I just Googled kilt rental websites, then searched their site for clearance or sales. I searched both here and in the U.K.
I ended up buying from the U.K. and paying the import charges and still got a good deal. I'd suggest that if you order from out of the country, you ask the company to put that it is used clothing to see if you can get a cheaper duty rate.

While I am not a UK member I was lucky enough to pick up an ex-hire jacket and waistcoat from the Hector Russell store here in Toronto at a very good price, here is the link to my thread about it

I actually never thought about hiring clothes but generally I am a big fan of websites where you can hire something. Most of the times I hired certain tools in order renovate my flat.
I will definitely check the websites you have posted here because I am of the opinion that it is a good idea to hire a kilt. Hopefully I will find an appropriate one for my fiance.

Armstrongs here in Edinburgh sell a lot of ex-hire kilts, jackets etc. but you would really need to come here. I think most of the hire people such as Geoffrey Tailor sell off their hire stock once or twice a year so it might be worth Googling Kilt-hire, Edinburgh or Glasgow and seeing what comes up.

Hi Gene,
I was up in Dumfries last month and went to Andersons Kilts. I enquired about this precisely. The answer came back that they did sell off ex-hire clothing (kilts, sporrans and waistcoats as well as jackets). Their sale was always held in the first two weeks of November - after the last of the late summer weddings and before the Christmas and Hogmanay and Burns Night events. They indicated that, that time frame was common to most clothing hire companies in the UK. I intend to email them again closer to the time to get a firm set of dates and then have another mini-break up in Dumfries at that time.
Regards
Chas

My only ex hire was my Welsh PC and when they were gone they were gone.
It's likely that such items are only put up periodically and they may not advertise them widely so it may be worth contacting companies direct as to when they are likely to be holding a sale.
