But the words "comfort" and "freedom" do not belong in the same universe as the words "corset", "bustier", and "four inch heels". Even "three inch heels". The only way I will wear such things willingly is if I know they will be coming off in short order.
The thoughts your last sentence arouses are not politically correct in a 59 year old man married for 36 years to a lovely lady.

Another shoe recommendation from an actual wearer: Sofft line of pumps, slings, boots, sandals, etc. available through Nordstrom and elsewhere (Google is your friend). The ~3-inch heels I have from them are, bar none, THE most comfortable dressy shoes I have ever worn -- and I dressed "corporate" for several decades, through the era of business suits for women.
They are well constructed with inside padding/support that looks like an athletic shoe, and they come in both narrow and wide sizes! Remember those first commercials of women playing basketball in their Easy Spirit pumps? Well, IMHO these Soffts are the real deal. I have worn them for evenings out, danced, stood around talking, and walked into the house at the end of the night still wearing them!
Here's the line-up from Nordstrom.com, as I say you can find them elsewhere too.

you HATE HATE HATE HATE tartan. Yuck Plaid! BARF.
You refuse to dress like...like....*humph* these HUSSIES that the men are posting in this thread. In fact, if the dufus you're married to/dating/saddled with wasn't Scottish-crazy, you wouldn't be seen dead with anything plaid anywhere in your house, much less on your body. But there you go, the dufus wants you to wear the clan tartan, and it's too late to divorce him/find a new boyfriend/hire an assassin.
How to wear "tartan" but not have it particularly visible?
Tartan belt.

tartan clutch (you can leave it in the clan tent and "forget" to carry it around all day).

Tartan belt, clutch, sun hat with tartan ribbon around it....THAT will shut him up before you murder him, you won't expire from the heat at the Games, it will garner approving nods from the other women at the tent, and you can bury the stuff in the back yard before you have to wear it again, next season.

Tartan belt.
Nice belt, but it needs a few more colors.

I'm sorry, you were saying what?
I was distracted by this:

Wow, how to work with the hand you're dealt!
