I am a 3rd generation Californian. MacGregor on my mother's side. My Great-great grandfather arrived in California in 1857 at the urging of his brother, who had been in San Francisco since 1839 (after having been in Wisconsin in the coal business for ten years previous.)
Irish on my father's side. My grandfather arrived in Palo Alto, a town approximately 25 miles South of San Francisco (Stanford University is located there) in 1865. My family helped build San Francisco (then rebuild after the 1906 earthquake) and the surrounding communities. My family and I left California in 2005.
I wear both a traditional 16oz 8 yard kilt (a great kilt in the winter) when hiking in the hills behind us.
