Scots tend to recline rather than sit upright in chairs or on settees - just thinking back over the men I have known well enough to be at home with, the further North they were born the less likely they were to sit in what could be thought of as the usual manner.

I think it is really down to the cut of the kilt. All of my kilts are shaped across the back, rather than hanging straight down. When I sit, for example at dinner, with my posterior well back in the chair, there is no problem.
I suspect problems may be a combination of a fleshy backside (and tummy) combined with a kilt which isn't as well tailored as it should be.

That would be my guess too. I find if I do a decent "sweep", then things are OK. I'll give the "slouch & lean back" a try next time. But then, I am, like one of my sons, "a buttless wonder". (A quote from a most disrespectful daughter!)

So change. When she comes out of the bedroom in pants, refuse to go anywhere with her while she's dressed like that.

That doesn't work with her. She can go all day without eating, two days if she eats popcorn. (Which there is a lot of in the cabinet.)
Her reason was that she said she doesn't care if it's me and her or just me or me and the kids, but not all four of us as a family. Of course, I'm kinda thinking she might change her mind after we go to the ren fest and she spends a day with me in it.

I always seem to find myself sitting forward on the chair letting the sporran drop and anchoring everything in place. Usually seem to have enough fabric under me that way. If a lack of material between you and the seat is a problem, wear underwear...it's the twenty-first century all ready...it's permitted if its absence is going to make you uncomfortable or cause any embarrassment.

She was raised by crazy people. Her deep rooted issues are hard to chip away.

Well I hope you were kind enough to bring her a doggie bag when you came home from supper.

Well, ya know the old joke that can be adapted to fit the situation:
"My wife said that she'd leave me if I bought another kilt."
"Gee, that's too bad..."
"Yup...I'm gonna miss her..."
