    Back from London...

    Hi there,
I'm just returned from London, where I see a really nice exhibition about Hadrian (Roman Emperor). Right in front of the Brit there is this shop. I haven't the nerve to go in and ask the price. Somebody know this shop?

    Cheers.

Ps. Funny enough think to be Italian (and in Rome) and go to London to see a well done Exhibition about Rome and Romans Emperors (and don't find any in Rome!!)

Thats in Great Russell St as you say opposite the British Museum. They are not VERY expensive, but not cheap either, for a central London shop ok actually. Only been there once or twice they have another premises in West London but its only open at the weekends.

I was there in February. I found it didn't have much in the way of kilts or accessories, but leaned heavily towards knitwear, tartan shawls and such. However, while I was in, a gentleman came in and hired a kilt to be picked up the next day, so I suppose they have other premises with more stock somewhere.

They do have a good website, though: http://highlandstore.com

Yeah - as others have said, they're not bad - reasonable range of bits even if most of the kiltie stuff iis in the basement and not on display. Google for 'Highland Store GRS' and you'll find them.

I have been in the shop two or three times and, it seems to me, that they now carry less in the way of Highland Dress merchandise than they used to. When I visited soon after they opened several years ago, the owner and his staff were particularly attentive (they even recognised me from the Internet!!!) but when I called in about six weeks ago, the staff virtually ignored my friend and I, although we were the only people in there at the time. Also, the downstairs area was roped off and inaccessable to the public. Seeing nothing of interest to either of us, we left empty-handed.

I have to agree that their website is quite impressive, and admit that their stock appears to be of reasonable quality, but I think they must rely on on-line business to keep them going.

Come to think of it, until the premises closed down about a year ago, they had a sales area in the Scottish Tourist Office in Trafalgar Square. I went in there just once; the lone salesman was, I think German (nothing wrong with that, of course) but he had scant knowledge of what he was selling and none at all about the attractive tartan used for his window display!

    Take care,
    Ham.

I've browsed through there, but nothing piqued my interest much.
