Sock dreams are probably the longest hose I know of. Don't let the "hottie" on the front page fool you. They do have socks that will work for men.
Steve at Freedom Kilts has the Heritage hose which appear to be the best option fro your snow hikes. They are incredibly thick. You might want to talk with him as far as how long they are.
The Piper hose are very long, thick and comfortable also and they look really good too. I wear these all the time now.

You can even try Hamilton Dry Goods for some inexpensive socks but you will want to stay away from the cotton ones of course if you will be out in the snow for long hikes.
