OK what if I am FAT

I have "snake hips"... as MacMillan of Rathdown says.

There seems to be a soft area between the top of my pelvis bones, and the bottome of my rib cage; not counting those short ribs in the back. That is where my top kilt buckles sit. Those happen to be off the peg kilts. They fit alright, then even better after I added a stabilizer that spread the tinsion out across the area where a belt is worn.

Most of the low cut trousers and pants don't fit me and tend to slide down unless they are uncomfortably tight in their waistband which sits on my pelvis bones. On the other hand my dress trousers and suit trousers are all high-waisted and fit just as well as a kilt because their waistbands sit above the top of my pelvis bones. No need for braces with the kilt or the high-waisted trousers.

Just thought I'd weigh in with the snake hip point of view...

I agree that perhaps a smaller overall length may suit you better in the overall look.

I'm looking at those pictures, and I haven't seen a what I'd call a truly fat person yet.

As some have been saying here, and I usually hear it most from ladies and gentlemen of the south, I feel a more apt term is stout.

To me, the kilts I have seen look to be fitted well, and the wearer's look comfortable.
BTW, this comes from someone who used to be called "Fat Matt the River Rat"

Well sir,it's like this.Compared to me,you're skinny.I'm a good hundred more than you and have had my kilt made by a local kilt maker.She took great care to measure carefully exactly where a kilt is to be worn.My kilt comes to the middle of my knees and to the navel,to of it actually.Most comfortable garment I've ever worn and I do not,repeat,do not wear a belt.If it's measured right and worn right,you will never have to worry about it falling.

I like the belt for mine, ordered it so I could use SWK's sporran hanger.

That's all in how you hold the weight, and looking at your legs, you are probably one of the healthiest people you know. Many people 'your size' would have non functioning shapeless legs. I never was at your size, but i'm in the boat of the leg thing. My wife saw me run to the car in the rain a few weeks back, and realized my legs are scary to her because of the muscle definition in them. I can say I'd hate to get kicked by those legs, and a kilt is a great way to show them off.

I would like to thank everyone for your kind comments. I was afraid I would be criticized for choosing to wear my Kilts at the hips. It is certainly true we all have different body types. I am a large person but definitely not too big, in fact dressed as Santa Claus I am often told I am a skinny Santa. I received my second Stillwater Kilt in the mail today. As a Wood Badger (Boy Scouts) I now own two McLaren tartan Kilts. The other kilts I wish to have (Clan Ross and Clan Claus) will cost much more. Until then I will just enjoy my McLaren Kilts worn on my Hips. Has anyone had experence hemming these stillwater kilts?
