Wearing a kilt without the sporran?

Would most outsiders (outside the usual hecklers) still recognize it as a kilt without it? (I usually go out with my Ghillie shirt to try to complement my outfit just in case). I intend to get one anyway, as without it I feel empty without a place to store things, but I just wanted to know who acceptable it was to go without one in general?

Yes, I've found people recognise a kilt regardless of the presence of a sporran, or sporran-like accessory. I find I need something with my NeoKilt because otherwise I have to carry things in my hands...
