I'd say my wife tolerates the kilt, and has become more accepting over time. She doesn't love them by any means, and we did have words about it a couple of times, but she is willing to go along since it makes me happy.
If it was only a question of wearing them to Scottish events it would be a non-issue. I think she doesn't like the attention it draws (or that she thinks it draws) when I wear them out and about. But since she doesn't make a fuss when I wear them with with her, which I do with some frequency, I guess I don't have it too bad in that regard. My 10 year old daughter still makes a point of saying that she thinks its embarrassing, my 12 year old son doesn't notice.

Recently a buddy suggested that I get him a kilt for his birthday. That same night his wife called me and told me in no uncertain terms that while I "rock" in my kilt, I absolutely should not get one for her husband, and that it was not open to discussion. So there you go.

    Best regards,

    Jake

My GF had never really offered much of an opinion until very recently. I always assumed that she had just tolerated it, until she actually came out and said that she likes the way I look in one... I was rather shocked. Anyone else I dated prior either absolutely loved it, or thought it was absolutely silly.

    "Wife"?

Closest I've come are the Alewives trodden upon the Lake Michigan shores of my youth.

I'm like Jock Scot. I made it known I wear the kilt before we even met.

    No Kilt=No deal.

My wife tried for several years to coax me into purchasing a kilt. I finally did this year after a visit to relatives in Scotland. I now have three and two more are being made.

    She loves it!

I don't wear one every day (work etc), but from the beginning my wife has liked me wearing one (she described me in it as "sexy" ).

My wife totally surprised me with 2 kilts (an SWF standard and an Amerikilt) for my birthday this past August. I never considered wearing a kilt before that. "OK" I thought, "why not??"... That was just 2 months ago. I now have 8 kilts in house plus a USAK on order. Is she supportive? Aye! She wants me to lose the pants altogether...

My wife thought it was all right as a "costume" for a special wedding, but now thinks I am just trying to be the center of attention. I told her I was ordering another from SWK , she just rolled her eyes and shook her head. Of course this is the same lady who thinks I sing to loud at church, drive to fast, drink too much, ride my motorcycle too fast, wear too much aftershave, not enough deodorant, and generally thinks I am a loud obnoxious bear; her loud obnoxious bear, but one none the less. Secretly I think, she thinks I have enough brass to pull anything off, so as long as I don't go too far off the beaten path, she has a lot of pride in what I do. She tells our son "well he may be crazy, but he's never boring".

My blessed 80 old mother, wants to start weaving me a "family" Tartan! She has some Maple leaf Tartan she bought over 40 years ago from Hudson Bay that she's going to dig out and give to me to have a "proper" kilt made! Go figure.

My wife thought it was goofy at first, and she sort of still does, but I also think she's jealous. She's Norwegian, and other than outrageously overpriced (but very nice) sweaters, beige food featuring fish soaked in lye and the whole rape/pillage thing, they don't have anything like the kilt that is such a powerful symbol of their national heritage. When the stuff comes down, I think she gets it, and I think she wishes she had something like that.
