The tartans we wear are beautiful works of art (as, I am sure, are Hawaiian designs); they should be seen to their best advantage, standing alone and without something else alongside elbowing in for equal attention. Nothing should be allowed to compete with the beauty of our individual tartans, not even a mix of different tartans being worn on one body - which is almost, but not quite, as bad as putting an Hawaiian shirt with a gorgeous tartan kilt!
I have said all this many times before. I have said it again now and, no doubt, I will be obliged to repeat it in the future - if I am spared.
Hear my plea - and please do not do it!
Take care,
Ham.

Oh no, I never ever mix tartan and Hawaiian shirt. Sometimes with that kakhi Buzz Kidder, but never with tartan.
Tweed and tartan, on the other hand seems to work out for some reason...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Sorry, I just don't think that works but that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I have a blue Hawaiian shirt with white flowers, and a white one with blue flowers. There's a picture of the white one up in the gallery, also somewhere in my albums. Then I have a solid black, silk one: no flowers.
I do not wear the orange ones. And again, never ever with tartan.

IMHO not with tartan, but with solid color kilts (particularly contemporary kilts in summer cotton and poly-cottons) definitely.
