Kilted as a chef was mentioned, I always wondered how a kilt and a chef's jacket would go together.
Kilt + welding = very, very, very bad idea. I've tried it and I've learned my lesson. An apron works well when working at a forge though.

Nice one!

Brilliant. I wonder if the Haggis manufacturers need any reps?!
If I remember right, the Highland Spring water people actually have a kilt option as a uniform for their drivers.
All the best

I'll vouch for that. I had one of theirs and, I'm afraid, it was just too hot - goodness only knows how soldiers wore them in hand-to-hand combat.
Best wishes

I'm a programmer for a Large Government Organization. Our little section of heaven has a standard "business casual" dress code. I've run the idea past our "den mother" (most of the true managers work off site), and she'd prefer that I not be kilted (she's worried about distractions).
I'm hoping for a promotion soon, so I don't want to make waves, but I've been showing pictures of myself kilted to co-workers to start easing them into the concept, so nobody will be shocked. My thought is that if women can wear knee-length skirts, the so should men.
Then, again, I telecommute 2-3 days a week, and I'm ALWAYS kilted at home.
As an aside, I've been amused by the number of programmer/analyst types that have replied to this thread.

Another kilted educator here. At my high school job, only on Tartan Day and to the prom. At the Community College, every night unless we are doing dissection labs (I haven't gotten around to getting a PC lab jacket yet)
Kilted Teacher and Wilderness Ranger and proud member of Clan Donald, USA
Happy patron of Jack of the Wood Celtic Pub and Highland Brewery in beautiful, walkable, and very kilt-friendly Asheville, NC.
New home of Sierra Nevada AND New Belgium breweries!

I've worn it a few times with special permission for events. They look pretty good together.
Generally speaking though, a kilt wouldn't fly at the places that I've worked lately.

Thunderbolt,
Now you know that answer since you saw me in person wear my kilt for the first time to work this morning!
The kilt is going to make more frequent appearances at special events. Did you hear anyone say anything negative?

Not at all. In fact, all I heard were positive comments and praises! I think with the connection of the church to Scotland, you would be welcome to wear it more often! I envy you!

Kilted at work
I was discussing this today at work with a co-worker. We both have considered wearing them to work. We are asking our HR manager for the guidelines.
**We have a harassment policy here**
We shall see.
