Whilst I was a wee laddie in 1940's I can well remember the event being talked about and several years later tasting a wee dram ,or two, of some whisky that had "drifted ashore" from the wreck. A bottle,from the wreck, would be worth more than a Pound or two now, no doubt.

Sounds as if a good bit "drifted ashore."
