Great pictures.I really must get back to Mull one of these days, soon. Sadly the last picture and comments illustrates perfectly why, sometimes,I get a wee tad vague where a certain picture is taken. To be fair, I usually find that visitors from afar are far more likely to be careful of our surroundings that some of the locals, but after years of tidying up other peoples muddles, I really am not so keen on "people" wandering about the place. Sad really.

When I was on Ulva fifteen years ago it was as a participant in a minor survey to verify information obtained by others a decade before. Somebody in the last ten years has crudely excavated the floor of the cave and the pit they created has become a repository for all sort of trash, much of it from the commercial fishery.

Ulva is a private island. You are welcome to visit, but vehicles are not permitted. There are some farm tracks and many criss-crossing pathways, but circumnavigation probably requires you devote five hours and be fairly fit for some parts. The basalt cliffs are on the opposite side of the island to the ferry slip.

There are many neolithic remains in Mull, as there are in mainland Argyll, but less attention has been paid to them because of the wealth of fine sites in Kilmartin, Kilberry and elsewhere.

This is a good introduction to Kilmartin and nearby glens. For more depth there are innumerable books and papers available.

Lovely pictures of a beautiful part of the world. Those basalt columns are obviously linked to the Giants Causeway and Fingal's Cave.
